A Chance To Love Ch. 02

Chance smiled down at her as he caressed her hand in his. She returned a smile of her own and felt her cheeks blush pink. She glanced around at the people who remained on the street, chuckling as one drunken man staggered and fell down. Chance’s huskier laugh joined hers. He shook his head, for he had seen it too often.
“My truck is in the Golden Nugget parking garage,” he said as walked down the street, which was still littered with bottles and empty beer cases amongst other debris. Work crews were already out cleaning the mess that littered the street. “We’ll have time to talk in the truck on the way home.” Chance replied.
“Great!” she smiled as he led her to the parking garage.
“You have a beautiful smile!” he complimented as he touched her face.
“Thank you!” she blushed, “This has been a dream come true.”
Chance grinned ear to ear, “Your dream has only just begun darlin’, but this is better than a dream. This is reality. You deserve to be happy. I can tell that you’re not too happy with your life. I’d like to help make it better for you.”
“My shelter from the storm, huh?” she quipped as she snuggled against his side as he welcomed her into his embrace.
“Yeah, you could put it that way.”
“I like that idea. I’ve had it rough over the past year. I left a very volatile relationship with my ex-boyfriend in Wyoming. I’m getting better,” she sniffed as she hung her head.
“What did he do to you?” Chance asked as he noticed her withdrawal.
Kaia shook her head. She couldn’t bring herself to discuss it with him, no matter how nice he seemed. “I really don’t want to talk about it right now,” she muttered.
Chance could feel her pain and his heart went out to her. “I’ll be here for you when you’d like to talk,” he offered as he stroked the small of her back.
They came to the elevator at the parking garage and stepped inside. He pressed the button for the level he’d parked on. He gave her an understanding smile, caressing her with a tender touch.

“Thank you,” she said with a haunted smile.

“Anything for you, my sweet,” Chance lavished as the elevator door opened before them, allowing them to step out. “Here’s the level my truck is on.”

“Which one is it?”

“The red one.”

“Oh, the Dodge?”

“Yeah, it’s the Dakota, but you should see my Z28. It’s black with a black bra, blue neon’s underneath it, tinted glass, a kick ass stereo system, custom paint and mag wheels,” he described proudly.

“Sounds pretty awesome!”

“It is. Chicks really dig it! I’m sure you’ll like it!”

“Can I drive it?”

“Sure, I’ll let you take it out for a spin sometime.”

“Great!” she smiled.

Chance pressed the button on his remote entry device and opened the door for her. “Ladies first.”

“Ooh, a gentleman. Thank you.”

Once he joined her on the driver’s side, he started the engine and backed out of the parking space. “You’ll have to show me where you live.”

“I live with Morgan and Michael up on Desert Inn…in Spring Valley. We used to have an apartment before Michael asked her to move in with him. Naturally, she couldn’t leave me behind.”

“How’d you meet Morgan?”

“I did some temp work where she works and we became good friends. She asked me to be her roommate and split the cost of living.”

“That was cool of her.”

“Yeah, we liked a lot of the same things and got along well. I didn’t like where I was living and she had been looking for a roommate since her previous one moved out. So once I found a permanent job, I moved in. Funny thing, Michael asked her to move in with him not 2 months later.”

“What about now?” he asked as he maneuvered his truck down each level of the parking garage. Kaia kept her eyes on him. His stunning appearance had mesmerized her. She could only think of how lucky she’d been to meet him and with a chuckle, she thought, here-at a crowded Las Vegas New Year’s Celebration-of all places. “So what was that chuckle all about?”

“I was just thinking that it’s hard to believe that we met here of all places,” she mused.

“I know. It’s a little mind blowing,” he replied. “I’m just happy you said you were living here. I had hoped that you weren’t from somewhere else, just spending New Year’s here.”

“What would you have done if I didn’t live here?”

“Start believing in long distance relationships, I guess.” Chance replied. “We don’t have to worry about that, now do we?”

“Same here, I guess.” Kaia agreed. “Although, I’d hate to think my dream man was an out-of-towner.”

“Nope, I’m a born and bred Las Vegan!”

“I’m originally from Gillette, Wyoming.”

“I believe you mentioned that earlier. Was it your ex who caused you to move here?” he asked.

“Yes.”

Chance nodded, as he turned onto Las Vegas Blvd., and headed for Sahara Ave. He didn’t want to push her. “Do you have to work tomorrow?”

“No. You?” she asked in return.

“Nah, I’m off. You got plans?”

“Just dinner with Morgan and Michael,” she replied. “How about you? Would you like to join us?”

“Yes, I’d like to spend the day with you. I could spend it with family, but it’s hard to do since my folks passed away last year.” Chance said.

“I’m sorry to hear that. How’d they die? Do you have any siblings?” she asked sympathetically.

“No siblings. I’m an only child. My parents died in a car wreck.”

“How sad. You must miss them terribly.”

“I do. I was very close to them. My mom used to call me her miracle baby.” Chance smiled.

Kaia cocked her eyebrow in askance, and then waited for him to continue.

“They had tried for about ten years to have kids. Mom suffered a series of miscarriages. When she became pregnant with me, her doctor warned her that this would be her last chance to have a child. He strongly advised her against anymore. She took it easy for me. Bed rest, the whole nine yards. Dad hired a maid to clean the house. Beyond that, dad waited on her hand and foot. When I was born, I was premature and I almost died. She prayed that I would make it. She relied on her faith in God that I would live. I did. She knew I’d be her only chance at motherhood. That’s how I got my name.” Chance explained.

“Why don’t you want children?” Kaia asked.

“Probably because of what my mother went through just to have me and the fact I’m 23 and both my parents are dead,” Chance said, glumly. “I wouldn’t want them to go through what I did if I were to die. Plus I guess I never have wanted any.”

Kaia nodded her head, “I understand. I’m the same way. I don’t want any,” she said as she looked into his eyes. “I’d rather have a cat. They’re easier to take care of.”

“Good, but don’t go getting any ideas,” he teased with a mirthful smile.

“Don’t worry, Chance. We’ve just met. We haven’t even made love yet.” Kaia replied.

“Well, sounds like you’re a woman after my own heart.”

“Could be.”

“I don’t mind as long as you’re good to it.”

“I will be.”

“I wouldn’t expect anything less from you, my sweet,” he said. “I knew from the moment I met you that you were someone special. You have a good heart. That’s hard to find in most attractive women. I meet a lot of drop dead gorgeous females where I work. Sure, they’re pretty outside, but inside their hearts are hard as nails. You are like a breath of fresh air. I like that.”

“The same could be said for someone who looks like you. I’ve met a few longhaired guys since I moved here. They have these perfect bodies and perfect hair, but they pick these girls who are as gorgeous as they are. I don’t stand a chance with them.”

Chance guffawed, “Stand a ‘chance’, huh? You have one with me, babe. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. All that matters is what I think.” Chance reassured her.

Kaia smiled.

“What a beautiful smile,” he said, as he turned onto Desert Inn Blvd. “You’ll have to show me where your house is.”

“About four blocks away,” she said.

“Okay.” Chance nodded. “That went quicker than I thought it would.”

“Sure did.” Kaia agreed.

Soon they were pulling into the driveway of the house. He parked his truck in front of the double garage. “Here we are.” Kaia sighed as he shut of the engine. “Would you like to come in?”

“Sure.”

He walked her to the door then waited beside her as she unlocked it with the key. Together they entered the dark one story house. “Morgan and Michael must be in bed,” she whispered and walked into the great room. “We’ll be okay in here.”

A loud moan pierced the silent house and Kaia smothered a chuckle. She rolled her eyes and shook her head. “Good god, they’re at it…AGAIN!” Kaia let out an exasperated sigh. “I guess I’ll get no sleep tonight!”

“Ah, I remember those days well. A buddy of mine used to share a place with me. I swear he’d bring home a different girl home every night. He liked strippers and had to have a different one each time. He’s fathered like four kids that he knows of, that he’s paying for. He did marry one of the girls he got pregnant.”

“At least he’s taking responsibility. That’s more than can be said for most.” Kaia scoffed, “My sister wasn’t so lucky.”

“You’ve never talked about your family much.”

“I’ll tell you later about them.” Kaia promised, “Back here is my room. I’ve got a king-sized bed that I love.” She let out a dreamy sigh as she thought how she’d like to share it with him.

“I have a question to ask you.” Chance paused as she gave him a quizzical look. “I know what it’s like to have to listen to that,” he said, referring to the lustful moans echoing through the house. “So, would you like to spend the night at my place?”

“What?” she stammered.

“You heard me. Would you like to spend the night with me? Look, I don’t mean it like you’re thinking. Not for sex. Just come sleep in the same bed with me. I’ll fix you breakfast in bed and we’ll get to know each other.” Chance suggested.

“I’d love to. Just let me grab a few things.”

“Hop to it, gorgeous,” he nodded as he watched her take her backpack from the closet and head into the bathroom where she grabbed her toothbrush and hairbrush, stuffing each into the pack. She opened the closet and looked inside. Picking out a black silk shirt and designer jeans, she put them into the backpack along with something to sleep in and her underclothes.

“I’m ready.” Kaia chirped as she picked up her purse.

“Great, let’s go!”

“Wait. Let me write a note for Morgan. I don’t want her to worry about me.”

Chance waited while she penned the short note to Morgan and tacked it to the refrigerator with a magnet. Once she was done, Chance led her to the door. Kaia closed and locked the door behind her then followed him to the truck. She moved close to him and snuggled under his arm.

“Something wrong?” Chance asked as he wrapped his arm around her.

“I’m cold.”

“Well, once you get into the truck, you’ll get warm. You can even take a hot bubble bath in my big roman tub if you’d like.”

“Sounds inviting!”

“Sounds like I may invite myself in there with you. Sounds tempting to me.”

“Yes, it does.”

“Shall we?” he asked.

“Shall we what?” she asked, puzzled.

“Share that bubble bath,” he replied.

Kaia smiled then hesitated. “It could lead to other things so it may not be a good idea this soon.”

“You’re right, but you can’t fault a guy for trying.” Chance quipped as he drove away, heading for Spring Mountain Dr.

“True.” Kaia nodded.

Chance chuckled and gave her a heart-melting smile,” You’re so sweet!”

“So, what kind of work do you do?” Kaia asked.

“I tend bar at The Jungle Room.”

“A bartender, huh? No wonder why you said you meet tons of girls.”

“Yeah, I meet tons of girls. Mostly barflies and tramps,” he scoffed, “You’ve seen them. They dress sleazy and will go home with any guy who buys them a drink. Big hair and way too much makeup.”

“I’ve met a few of those kinds. I’m glad I’m not one of them.”

“Nah, you have way too much class to be like that.” Chance said, “What kind of work do you do? Where do you work?”

“I work for SofGraphix. I’m a systems analyst. We’re a software developmental company.”

“Computers, huh?”

“Yes, I love them!”

“I noticed you had one in your bedroom.” Chance said, “Are you full time?”

“Of course I am. I work 8-4:30 Monday through Friday and sometimes Saturday if we’re busy with a big project.”

“I see our schedules are going to clash. I work nights from 6:30-3,” he replied, “but I make great tips.”

“That’s good.”

“I like a career woman. It means she’s not sitting on her butt all day binging on Bon-bons and watching soaps.”

“I don’t watch much TV. Only on weekends and I don’t binge.”

“Good girl.”

Kaia turned and looked out the window, gazing at the neon speckled landscape stretching out before her. The streets were empty of cars and celebrators who’d ushered in the New Year with so much zeal. She glanced over at Chance and longed to touch the long flowing blond locks. Her palms itched with desire as her body warmed in anticipation of being near him. He caught the look in her eyes, that unmistakable look of hunger. He knew it would take all the willpower he possessed not to take her once he got her to his apartment. He fought the urge to dishevel her perfectly coifed curls. Chance took in a deep breath as he felt his jeans tighten. He knew being near her and not being intimate with her would be torture for him, but he knew he had to stick to the boundaries he’d set for himself.

“Here we are,” he said as he turned onto Sierra Vista and drove half a block until he came to the driveway of the complex he lived in. He drove into the parking lot and parked his truck in his stall.

“I know someone who lives here.” Kaia spoke up as he opened the door for her.

“Which building?”

“D.”

“I live in B. Have you come here often?” he asked, wondering if he knew whom she was talking about.

“I’ve been here a few times. Matter-of-fact, I was here last weekend. A friend at work lives here and we go to clubs together.”

“What’s her name? I may know her.”

“Jade Hewitt.”

Chance shook his head. “I don’t know her.”

“Maybe I’ll ask her if she’s seen you.”

He chuckled then changed the subject. “There’s my Z28.”

“It’s gorgeous. I remember seeing that car when I was here once.” Kaia purred with delight.

He let out another chuckle.” Yeah, it’s a real chick magnet.”

“You sound proud of that.” Kaia quipped as she teased him.

“Nah, not really. It gets attention, but I don’t let it go to my head.”

Kaia cocked an eyebrow at him.

“Neither of them,” he elaborated with a wink as he led her up the stairs to the second floor. “I’m sure you know most of this complex. Over there is the swimming pool. It’s heated. I really love it. I go swimming a lot when the sun is out. Beyond it is one of the four Jacuzzis. The trees for privacy surround it. Looks like it’s in use. I don’t know how many times people-tenants-have been caught doing the nasty in there.” Chance chuckled.

“Have you done that?”

“Yeah, but not here. My ex and I did at our old apartment,” he chuckled, “but that was a long time ago as far as I’m concerned. She’s moved on and so have I.”

“I never have before, but I’d like to try.” Kaia teased as she wrapped her arms around his waist and walked beside him.

“We could manage that…soon.”

As they reached the door, he pulled out his keys and unlocked it. She memorized the number on the door. Apartment 231.

“My apartment is a bit messy so ignore it please.”

Kaia looked around as he let her in. He turned a light on and shut the door behind him, locking it for the night. Kaia viewed the room, which was indeed small, but noticed despite its small size seemed warm and cozy.

His bed, which took up most of the space in the studio size apartment, was large and inviting. It was covered by a heavy black and burgundy comforter with pillows to match that were oversized and numerous.

Along the wall across from the bed stood a mahogany chest of drawers, TV stand, and a large potted plant. Wedged between the TV stand and the bar that separated the bedroom area from the kitchen was a rectangular fish tank with pretty tropical fish swimming inside. Kaia noticed two nightstands flanking each side of the bed. Another potted plant stood near the window beside the heater. A phone stand sat in a corner by the closet, which held a cordless phone and answering machine. Two closets lined the right wall across from the kitchen near the door to the bathroom at the very back of the small apartment.

“I don’t do much entertaining. There’s nowhere to sit besides on the bed and on those stools in front of the bar. The bathroom is back there and I have a washer and dryer in the closet. They’re apartment size.”

“This is a nice place. Definitely not a typical ‘bachelor pad’. It’s not at all messy.” Kaia replied as she looked around. “It’s cozy.”

“Thanks, darlin’. Just make yourself at home.”

“I will,” she said as she sat down on one of the stools. “Thank you, Chance.”

“It’s my pleasure, babe. If you’d like to get changed and ready for bed, feel free to do so. You can use the bathroom.”

Kaia nodded, “Okay, I’ll do that.”

“I know it’s late, but would you like anything to eat or drink?”

“No, not right now. Thanks, though, for asking.”

“I always aim to please.”

“I’d say so.” Kaia replied as she walked toward the bathroom. Once inside, she closed the door and found her toothbrush, realizing she’d forgotten her toothpaste. “Chance?”

“What, sweetie?” he asked as he walked over to the half-opened door.

“I forgot my toothpaste. Can I use yours?”

“Go ahead. Help yourself.”

Kaia nodded in thanks as he handed it to her. “Can I take a shower?” she asked as she pointed to the roman tub that looked so inviting.

“Take a bubble bath if you’d like.” Chance reached down below the tiled sink and pulled it out. As Kaia stood above him, he sneaked a peek up her dress, and smiled as he set he wildflower scented bubble bath suds on the counter. “Here. Oh, by the way, your panties are incredibly sexy. I like see through lace.”

“Chance!” Kaia exclaimed in exasperation. “Were you looking up my dress?”

“Yes,” he admitted impishly, “I couldn’t help myself. Ya can’t blame a man for trying.”

“Don’t try so hard!” she quipped as she gave him a saucy smile.”

“I’ll keep that in mind.”

“Good, cus I dole out rewards when I feel they’ve been earned.” Kaia replied.

“That’s a good way to do it,” he agreed, “Tell me though, what kinds of rewards?”

“If I tell you, they wouldn’t be rewards,” she quipped, “and you’d expect them all the time. These are special things I want to do that I’ve never got the ‘chance’ to do.”

“I suppose you’re right, honey,” he snapped his fingers and turned away to walk out the door. “I suppose these rewards can work both ways.”

“Most definitely.”

“Now that’s something to think about.”

“Yes, it is.”

” Good, then it shall be fun for both of us,” he stated as he bestowed a steamy kiss upon her that left her that left him hard and throbbing and shot a carnal ache racing through Kaia’s feminine core. Breaking it with a groan, he left the bathroom to allow her some privacy. Kaia clutched the counter as her knees threatened to give way. What a kiss! What a man!

Chance did the same in the other room and willed his aching manhood to stop throbbing. Never before had a woman turned him on so intensely in such a short amount of time. He fought the urge to bed her, to take her hotly, intensely and bring her to scorching passion like she’d never felt before. He almost couldn’t believe his luck. He didn’t have a problem attracting women. They flocked to him like bees to honey, but he knew Kaia was different. He never thought he’d meet such a wonderful woman. Never expected to find her on a crowded Las Vegas street on New Year’s Eve. His luck with relationships, though, his luck with love had never been too successful, but perhaps his luck was changing. Lady Luck, he chuckled, HIS Lady Luck. They had hit it off splendidly and she had captured his heart in her sweet and bubbly way. He wondered if she was truly the one for him. He knew only time would tell. He sensed an underlying innocence that he thought was sweet. Yes, she was a keeper…and he vowed to make her happy, forever.
