The days and nights over the next three months fell into a comfortable pattern. Kaia would go to work during the day then have dinner with Chance before he went to work in the evenings. He arranged to have his weekends off in order to be with Kaia even though it meant giving up the extra money. He didn’t mind. He knew Kaia was more important to him than money. On their days off, they spent their time going skiing on Mt. Charleston or weekend trips to the Grand Canyon. They spent time at home, simply enjoying each other’s company. Some nights they’d hang out with his friends who became hers as well or family, going to movies or to a club, dancing the night away, completely immersing themselves in their deep abiding love for each other. On Valentine’s Day, Chance surprised her by having two dozen long-stemmed roses delivered to her workplace and with a romantic candlelight dinner at home, dining on succulent filet mignon, chocolate dipped strawberries and champagne. He lit candles in the bathroom as they shared a bubble bath. Then he carried her to the bed and enwrapped her in raptured bliss. Chance and Kaia immersed themselves in each other, their love for each other growing stronger as each day passed. She let down her guard and let him into her heart, admitting her love for him wholeheartedly. Chance reveled in her heartfelt confession and bestowed his own unconditional love for her upon her. Kaia felt safe with Chance and began to leave the old ghosts of her tumultuous past that haunted her behind, forgotten within the shining happiness she now reveled in. On evening as they sat on the stools in front of his kitchen eating their dinner before he left for work, they began discussing renting a larger place to live. “I’d rather have a house, doll.” Chance stated. “It just makes sense. Why should we pay rent on a place we will never own? We should be thinking about our future.” “True,” she agreed. “We can start looking. I’m sure between our two incomes we will be able to afford to buy a nice house.” “I’d like to live in a gated community,” he said, taking a sip of his soda. “There are houses for sale where Brent and Kelly live.” “Those are big expensive houses, though.” Kaia replied. “Do we really need a large house for the two of us?” “Well, honey, I’d like to have room for visitors, like if your family wants to stay. And even though Matt moved in with Madaysa, I promised him when I had a house, he could move in. Before he moved in with her, he shared a three-bedroom house with like five other guys one of which was his brother. His stuff has gotten trashed or stolen. He didn’t even have his own bedroom although he paid most of the bills.” “That’s fine. Y’know what?” “What?” “There is a nice house in Spring Valley that I’ve had my eye on for a while. I’m pretty sure it’s still for sale. I think it’s a two-story. It has a quaint wrought iron gate surrounding a small courtyard plus a three-car garage. We can drive by it to see if it’s still for sale.” Kaia suggested. “We’ll do that tomorrow after you get off work.” Chance agreed. “And don’t worry about the price or whether our incomes will be able to afford it.” “Why not?” “There’s something I have to tell you, babe,” he said, sounding serious. “What?” Kaia smiled, searching his serious face for a hint. “We won’t ever have to worry about money,” he confessed. “Ever.” “What do you mean ‘ever’, darlin’?” “Just what I said, my love. Let me explain. You know my parents died in a car wreck, right?” He paused as she nodded. “What I didn’t tell you is what caused it? A faulty part broke within the wheel. The car was like two months old. Dad had wanted one of those cars for many years and he was so happy when he bought it. After the wreck, after they died and the cause was determined, I sued for damages. It took barely a month to settle. We settled out of court. The automobile corporation knew they were liable and I won. My lawyer was asking for twice as much, but they ended up paying out a lump sum of $30 million as a settlement of which I got $21 million. I haven’t used much of it. I bought my truck and my car and the rest is in the bank. I’ve invested some. So as you see, money is NO object.” “HOLY SHIT!!!!!! $21 MILLION!!” Kaia exclaimed, her eyes wide as saucers. “Yes, $21 million dollars!” “Ohmigod…” she stammered, her mouth agape. “Now do you see why I am so picky about who I date? I don’t flaunt that money and I don’t want to be used for it either. I knew you weren’t a gold-digger when I first met you, especially after you reacted after you won that money at the casino.” Chance replied. “Did Kyrsha know?” “Hell no. Not many people do. Just close family and friends plus the people involved in the suit. We wanted to keep it as quiet as possible.” “I see why.” “We will look at that house tomorrow,” he promised. Kaia smiled in return. “Good,” she agreed. “It’ll be so nice to have a place of our own.” They finished dinner and together they cleaned up the dishes and tidied the kitchen before Chance changed his shirt and gave her one last kiss that left her begging for more. “Whatcha doin’ tonight?” he asked as he grabbed his keys. “Madaysa’s comin’ over. We’re gonna get into girl stuff,” she giggled. Chance chuckled. “You have fun. I’ll be home later.” He kissed her once more and headed to the door. Feeling blissful and content, she settled onto the bed and picked up a magazine, waiting for Madaysa. Soon after Madaysa arrived and they readied to go out, the phone rang. “Hello.” Kaia answered as she sat her purse back down, “Hey girlfriend!” “Pam!” Kaia squealed, “Hey, how are you?” “Great and you?” “Doing great! It is so good to hear from you.” “I know. It’s been a long time.” Pam said, “I have missed you. And I hear you have a new guy.” “Yes, I do. And I have missed talking to you, too. I don’t know how many times I have tried to call you, but you are never home!” Kaia happily exclaimed. “Well, I’ve been working, girl. Kyle and I both work two jobs to afford the house we bought. We did buy an answering machine though so next time you call leave a message and I will call you back.” “I will.” “So I hear you are living with your new guy.” “Yes, Chance and I are living together. I am in love, girl! This is the real thing!” “I’m so happy for you and I can’t wait to meet him.” Pam chimed, merrily. “You will.” “Great, girlfriend, I’m so happy for you. Looks like things are going great for both of us because I have some good news for you!” “Well, tell me. What is it?” Kaia giggled in delight. “Kyle and I are getting married. I wish you could be here.” “You are? That’s wonderful, Pam! When is the special day?” “Tomorrow. I wished I’d gotten a hold of you sooner because I wish you could be here to stand up with me.” “Me, too.” Kaia sighed dejectedly. “It’s a small affair. Family and a few friends.” Pam replied, “There’s more, though.” “Tell me?” “We are honeymooning in Las Vegas. I won an all-expensive paid trip from Bridal Fantasies at a bridal expo. They gave away a trip to Vegas, one to the Bahamas, and a cruise. We will be staying at the Paris Hotel & Casino in the honeymoon suite.” Pam chimed with barely withheld elation. “That is so awesome, girl. You will absolutely love it here.” “And of course it goes without saying that I want to see you and meet Chance.” “Well girlfriend, I wouldn’t have it any other way. When you get here, give me a call either here or at work.” Kaia replied. “I will. I can’t wait to see you. It has just been too long.” “I know and I wish I could be there for your wedding. I wish I’d gotten the chance to come home.” “I’m really happy that you’ve met a nice guy, Kaia. Wade had his heart set on you, but he knows you are seeing someone and is happy for you. Not that he wouldn’t be there in a heartbeat if you ended up single. I talked to him a couple days ago. He’s doing well down there. He lives in Henderson, I believe.” “That’s good.” “Let’s see, your friend, Travis from Miles City, and his wife, Marissa, are expecting a baby. It’s due in August.” “Great!” “And Jessie and Shane got married on Valentine’s Day. She’s pregnant as well.” “That’s great!” “And Levi hasn’t been caught!” “I know!” “They will catch him soon, though. They are on his trail.” Pam reassured her. “Your mom told me you didn’t take that news very well.” “No, I didn’t. Not at first, but I’ve gotten over it. He won’t find me and Chance will protect me.” “Good!” Pam said, “Well girlfriend, I’ve gotta run. We have the wedding rehearsal and dinner to get to, but I will see you soon.” “See ya soon, Pam. Call me when you get in.” “Will do.” “Later, girlfriend!” Kaia bubbled. “Bye, Kaia.” Kaia set the phone aside after she turned it off and turned back to Madaysa. “That was my best friend from Wyoming.” Kaia told her, “She’s getting married and they are honeymooning here.” “Great! That is so exciting!! I would love to get married.” Madaysa commented, “But I don’t think Matt is looking for that!” “Give him time, girl. After all, Matt is incredibly dense, like most men, when it comes to that.” Kaia quipped, laughing. Madaysa peeled out with her own laughter. “True!” “Let’s go, girlfriend and shop ’til we drop!” ~*~ It was nearing midnight when a tall dark haired man approached the bar. Chance eyed him warily, knowing he had never seen him before. He caught the evil look in the stranger’s eyes. “What’ll it be?” Chance asked as he looked over the stranger. “Bud in a bottle and a shot of Jim Beam on the rocks,” he said, pulling a picture from his pocket. He waited for Chance to return with his drinks. He paid for them then spoke to Chance once more. “Say, guy, I’m new to this town and I’m looking for an old friend who lives here now. I have a picture of her. Would you by chance have seen her?” he asked as he handed Chance the photo. Chance’s eyes nearly popped out of his head as he looked over the picture of the woman and the man who had handed it to him. Despite the natural dark hair of the smiling girl, he knew without a shadow of a doubt that it was Kaia. Chance fought hard not to show his anger as he realized the man sitting on the stool across from him had to be Levi. He shook his head and returned the photo. “Can’t say that I have. We get so many women in here that even if she had been here, I wouldn’t remember. Plus I prefer blondes,” he lied as nonchalantly as he possibly could. “Thanks, pal.” Levi replied, “I’ll keep asking.” Chance nodded then set his drinks in front of him. “Ya say you’re new in town. Where ya from?” Chance inquired, hoping to find out more about the man who was looking for Kaia. “Up north. Wyoming,” he replied. “Never been there. I’ve lived here my whole life.” Levi scoffed, “Ya ain’t missing much. Nothing up there to see. I’m glad to be out of that state.” “How long have ya been in Vegas?” Chance asked, hoping not to see too nosy. “Oh, a couple of months. Been looking for my friend ever since. Actually, she’s my ex-girlfriend. We had a falling out and she left me. Didn’t let me know where she moved. None of her family would tell me either. I heard she had moved here so I thought I’d follow her and see if I could find her. It’d be nice to get together with no one interfering.” Levi replied, taking a deep swig of the whiskey in the glass. Chance nodded, ” You’ll like it here. Vegas has a lot to offer.” Except Kaia, he thought. He’d fight tooth and nail to keep her safe, to keep her away from the madman who’d nearly killed her. Chance walked away to serve another customer, but kept a vigilant eye on Levi. As soon as he could, he warned Matt and Chazz not to tell Levi they knew or had seen Kaia and they both readily agreed. On his break, he went into the office to call Kaia. He felt the need to warn her. Dialing his home number, the phone rang and rang until the answering machine picked up. Alarm raced through him. Where could she be? Worry spread through him like a malignant cancer. Why wasn’t she answering? He set down the phone and took a seat, picking up his glass of Coke and taking a sip. Several minutes later, he tried again. “Hello?” Kaia said, breathlessly. “Where ya been?” Chance asked. “With Madaysa. I just got in the door. Why?” Kaia answered in return, puzzled. “I guess I forgot you and Madaysa had plans. I don’t want to alarm you, but this is important.” “What, hon?” “First, tell me what Levi looks like?” he asked. “Describe him.” “What?!?!?! Levi?!?! Why?!?!?!” The pitch of Kaia’s voice rose, sounding frantic. “Calm down, honey. Just tell me what he looks like.” “He has short brown hair and gray eyes. He is tall and slim, about your height and weight. He has several tattoos on his arms and a barbed wire tattoo over his collarbone,” she described. “Why?” “I don’t want to alarm you or scare you, but he’s here. He’s here in the bar, asking about you. He has a picture she’s showing around but it’s an older picture when you had dark hair.” “WHAT?!?!?!?!” Kaia shrieked. “Don’t worry, baby. When he asked me, I didn’t tell him a damn thing about knowing you and neither will anyone else in this bar. Look, I’m gonna call the Metro Police. They’ll come and take him away. Nothing to worry about.” “Don’t let him find me!” “I won’t, honey. Didn’t I tell you I’d protect you?” “Yes.” “I will always. I’ll be home in a few hours. I love you.” “I love you, too,” she replied. “Thanks, Chance, for protecting me.” “You’re my woman.” “Madaysa and I were gonna stop by and see you and Matt, but it’s a good thing we didn’t.” “As much as I would have loved to have seen you, it’s good you didn’t. I could have called the police which I’m going to do next, but I still wouldn’t want him to hurt you or know you are here. He is looking for you, doll and that doesn’t sound good.” “I love you.” “I love you, Kaia.” “I’m going to bed now. Wake me when you get home so I can show you how much I love you.” “Can’t say no to that. I’ll be home before you know it. Love you.” “Love you more,” she giggled. “Ha ha, we’ll see. Later, sweetie.” “Bye, Chance.” Chance set aside and walked back to the bar. He scanned the room, looking for Levi. He let out a disgusted snort when he realized Levi was no longer in the bar. He wondered if he should still call the Metro Police and alert them of his presence in Las Vegas. Chance thought for a second before he wheeled back around into the office. “Chance, break time’s over.” John Ward reminded him “Alex and Chazz still need their breaks and that leaves Matt at the bar, and it doesn’t look like he can pull himself away from his bimbo that just walked in so get your skinny ass back out there.” “I need to make another phone call, though!” “You already made a call to your girlfriend.” John retorted. “But this is really important.” “Do it on your own time, Candelero. I said get your ass back to that bar and I mean it unless you wanna end up on the unemployment line.” John growled with a nasty scowl gracing his desert-weathered face, his patience growing thin. “Fine!” Chance retorted as he stormed out, slamming the door behind him. He fumed for the next few hours until the bar closed. They cleaned the bar up, straightening it for the next day’s business. As he walked out with Matt and Madaysa, he told them about Levi. “Kaia and I were going to stop by here before I dropped her off at home. I’m glad we didn’t. I wouldn’t want her ex to get a hold of her.” “I saw him talking to Chazz, though. It was right before he left. Couldn’t make out the conversation, but they both were smiling like the cat who ate the canary.” “I’ll keep an eye out for him from now on.” Chance replied as he reached his truck. “I’ll see you two soon. My baby is waiting with open arms.” “Don’t you mean legs?” Matt guffawed, with a wicked grin gracing his face. Chance shook his head. “She probably is,” he agreed. “And I can’t wait to get there.” “Quit your jawing and get a moving home!” Matt quipped, as he pulled Madaysa close. “My lady wants to get home too.” Chance shook his head and opened his truck door and hopped inside the cab. Once he drove away he felt he couldn’t get home quick enough. He had to see Kaia, to touch her, hold her, to know that she was all right. He had to know she was safe. As he reached the apartment complex and parked the truck beside the Camaro Kaia drove, he sensed nothing amiss. He let out a sigh and quickly walked up the stairs to the apartment. He stepped inside the darkened apartment and closed the door, his eyes struggling to adjust to the darkness within. He walked to the bathroom and flipped on the light, smiling as he saw the woman he loved asleep on the bed. He exhaled a long sigh of relief. Removing his clothes and stashing them in the basket to be washed, he turned off the bathroom light and walked over to the bed. He pulled back the covers, exposing Kaia’s silken nude body. He groaned as a bolt of molten lightning surged through his loins and he hardened instantly. Climbing in beside her, he pulled her next to him and felt his soul sizzle. Chance ran his hands over her luscious body, drinking in her scent that was sweeter than manna from heaven. His heart thumped against his chest, his manhood throbbing painfully. Letting out a deep moan, he ran his ands over her body, reveling in the exquisite softness, her enticing smell, and her lush curves. With one hand he cupped her breast and let out a soft moan. Her lushness fueled his fire to a blazing inferno and she was the only one to quench the flames. Kaia stirred, nestling her body back against his. He groaned as the taut mounds of her buttocks bumped his swollen rod. His groan sounded like thunder, harsh and rumbling. Yet it was sweet music to Kaia’s ears. Blinking, she opened her eyes as Chance’s hand skimmed over her tight body. “Mmmm…” Kaia let out a satisfied moan and wriggled against him. “Mmmm, baby,” he groaned as he slipped his hand between her silken thighs. She opened for him, giving him access to her slippery sheath. “Chance!” she squealed as he rubbed her pleasure button with wild abandon. She shook uncontrollably as the ecstasy claimed her, flooding her senses then cresting as she soared skywards into a passionate abyss. Her hearty moans and delicious squeals bounced off the walls, echoing in a cacophony of utter enjoyment. Chance nipped her ear and plunged his fingers inside her wet female cavern. She bucked wildly as she felt his fingers graze her hidden pleasure spot. She let out a wild scream as a heart-stopping climax wracked her body. She moaned as she came down, her breathing heavy. The erotic torture was almost too much for her, but Chance demanded more of her, demanded her all. He pushed her down flat on the mattress and rose above her. Their eyes met and locked and he let out a gasp at what he saw within her eyes. Her blue-green depths were glazed with passion and full of love for him. The sight of her below him looking so captivating only fanned the flames burning within his soul higher. He bent to kiss her, his hair falling down around them like a curtain of flaxen silk. She cupped his face, pushing back the hair as she met him halfway, their lips locking in an ultimate display of love and passion. Time shuddered to a halt. The heat of his kisses flooded her senses once more, leaving her panting breathlessly. He gazed into the aqua pools of her sparkling eyes and watched as they turned liquid with desire. He groaned as he nudged her legs apart and settled into the cradle of her lush thighs. Her body scorched his like a live flame. He wanted her, wanted her badly. The need for her hit him like a ton of bricks and he was driven to possess her once more. Kaia writhed beneath him as his ache to be inside her reached a fever pitch. |
