A Chance To Love Ch. 19

Kaia’s heart overflowed with joy as she hopped in her car and headed away from work. It excited her to have the day off. She let out a squeal of delight as she thought of how she could spend it with Chance, perhaps the way they had the night before. She delighted in the thought of arriving at home and waking him up the way he had her the night before.

Upon arrival, she noticed his truck was not there. She frowned, her hopes crushed. Perhaps he’d go to the gym like he said he might. Kaia giggled at the thought of surprising him when he returned. She’d entice him with her lush charms and take him to paradise.

Her cellular phone rang, drawing her out of her daydream. Pulling it from her purse, she answered it, hoping it was Chance.

“Hello.” Kaia bubbled.

“Hey girlfriend!” Pam chimed, “Guess where I am?”

“In town?” Kaia guessed.

“Yes, Kyle and I are at the Paris Hotel. We got in earlier. I called your work and they said you had left a while ago. So I tried your home phone and got the answering machine so I left you a message. Then I remembered your cell phone number. So where are you?”

“In the car sitting in the parking lot of where I live. I just got here. Chance isn’t home! Man, I can’t wait to see you, girl!” Kaia blurted out with exuberance.

“Well, I’m in Room 405. Can you visit me today?”

“I’d love to, but when?”

“No better time than the present, so how about it?” Pam suggested with glee.

“Now would be great! I’ll just head over now. I’ll see you in a few.” Kaia replied, delighted to see Pam.

“Okay. Later, girlfriend!”

“Yep.” Kaia stashed her phone back in her purse and backed the car out of the parking spot. She bubbled with uncontrolled joy as she drove her car towards the Paris Hotel & Casino, ecstatic at the thought of seeing her best friend. Kaia reached the hotel twenty minutes later and headed for Pam’s room after dropping off the car at valet parking. She held back an excited rush of happiness as she knocked on the door.

“KAIA!” Pam squealed as she opened the door.

“PAM!”

“It’s so great to see you!” They both blurted in unison and hugged each other tightly.

“Ladies, don’t flood the rug!” A familiar voice quipped.

Kaia looked in direction it had come. “Wade? It’s great to see you. Wow, what a reunion! How long have you lived here?”

“A couple months. I’ve wanted to see you, but I know you are involved with someone,” he replied.

“That’s cool. Chance won’t mind if we hang out. I’ll give you my number. Oh, hi Kyle!” she said, turning her attention away from Wade.

“How ya doin’, Kaia?” he asked.

“I’m fine. I have to tell you all, though, that Levi is here in Las Vegas. He’s looking for me. He showed up at the bar Chance works in last night showing around a picture of me. So be careful.”

“Has the F.B.I. been notified?” Kyle asked.

“Chance notified the Metro PD after he saw Levi.” Kaia replied, unaware that Chance hadn’t been able to call the police department.

“Then they will catch him. Don’t worry about him.” Pam reassured her. “Let’s go downstairs to a lounge or to the casino or someplace like that. We’ll sit down and talk.”

“Great.” Kaia agreed, gleefully. “We can get all caught up on everything since I moved away.”

“I do have to tell you that Kara is fit to be tied over your new guy. She hit the roof when your mom told her how hot he is and showed her a picture you sent home of the two of you together. She said if she met him, she could take him away from you in two seconds flat.” Pam snapped her fingers in a Z pattern.

“Figures? My twin can’t stand it that I’m happy. She hates it that Damian did her the way he did, getting her pregnant then leaving her for someone else.” Kaia snorted, “Kara will pay dearly if she gets near Chance.”

“Your mother pretty much told her the same thing.” Pam added.

“Good.”

“Well, let’s go.”

The four friends spent the next several hours sipping drinks in a lounge, catching up on old times. Wade bade them goodbye, saying he’d keep in touch.

“Y’know, he should hook up with Kara.” Pam stated.

“Why? He’s too nice for my sis.” Kaia retorted, surprised Pam would say that.

“Maybe he’d be good for her. Plus she’s the next best thing since he can’t have you.”

“No, neither of them would go for that. She used to call him a lovesick puppy dog.”

“Only because she liked him!! Who do you think used to egg Levi on against him?” Pam asked.

“Kara?!?!?!”

“Yup, Kara. I heard her say that she’d love to have him. I think it’d work.”

“Perhaps.”

“Plus she wants to visit you.” Pam added.

“No way! Nah, you are kidding me!!”

“Yes way, Kaia. I’m not kidding. She told me that. Kyle was with me. He heard it. I don’t know why or what the deal is, but it may have to do with Chance or Wade.”

“It’s gotta be cus there’s no way she’d wanna see me. We may be twins, but you know we are nothing alike.” Kaia quipped. ” I’ll talk to mom.”

“Let’s see, Brandon is engaged to his girlfriend. They are planning a February wedding next year. Brooke got accepted to Harvard on a full scholarship and Britnee got her driver’s license about a week ago. She used her inheritance money from your grandma to buy a new car.”

“Cool! My sixteen year old sister owns a better car than I do!” Kaia quipped, “Well I do have use of Chance’s Camaro, though.”

“Damian took back that Porsche he’d let Kara drive and now she’s stuck with that old clunker of hers.” Pam snickered. “She was so pissed at him.”

“I bet. She loved that car more than she did him.” Kaia laughed as she shook her head, “What time is it?”

“I’ve got five o’clock.”

“I need to get home. Chance and were supposed to go look at a house I’d like to buy. Say, why don’t you two go with me? You can meet Chance.” Kaia offered.

Pam shot a pleading look at Kyle, “Can we?” she asked.

“You go, honey. I think I’ll gamble some,” he said.

“Don’t you want to go?” Pam asked as she cocked and eyebrow.

“Nah, you go, honey.” Kyle shook his head as he mentally planned a romantic night for them.

“Alright, love,” she shook her head and leaned over to kiss him. “See you later.”

Kaia and Pam headed for valet parking where she had dropped off the car to be parked in the underground parking garage. She handed one of the valet’s her claim slip and waited for him to bring it up to her. “Oh my! That car is awesome!” Pam exclaimed. “Way better than Kara’s Porsche.”

“Ya think?” Kaia asked, as she climbed into the driver’s seat.

“Hell yeah, this is just too sweet! You are so lucky!”

“I know, but wait until you see my honey. You’ll flip because Chance is so damn fine.”

“I’m happy for you, Kaia. I’m glad you’ve found such a good man. You deserve it after all you’ve been through.”

“Thanks, Pam.”

When they arrived at the apartment complex, Kaia located Chance’s truck. “He’s home. There’s his truck, the red one. He’s probably wondering where I’ve been.”

“He’s not one of those guys who have to know where you’ve been and what you’re doing every second of the day, is he?”

“Oh no, Chance isn’t like that. He’s nothing like Levi! It’s just that I left work early and since I spent the day with you, he doesn’t know.”

“That’s good that he’s not like that. You don’t need another one of them.” As soon as Kaia opened the door and stepped inside, an angry voice boomed, “Where the hell have you been?”

Kaia’s jaw dropped at Chance’s angered tone, a tone he’d never used before towards her. She let Pam in and closed the door behind her before answering. Looking around the small room, she surveyed the scene. Alex sat on one of the stools, cradling a coffee mug between his hands. He shook his head at her and turned away.

Confusion furrowed Kaia’s brow. Why was Chance so mad? She looked him as he stood in the kitchen area, his hands on his lean hips, a frown marring his gorgeous face. Pam threw her an odd look.

“Where’ve you been?” he repeated, growling.

“I got off work early and came home. Pam called from the hotel she’s staying in and wanted to see me. She and Kyle are honeymooning here.” Kaia replied, indignantly. “Why are you so mad? I haven’t done anything wrong. You need to chill.”

“I stopped by your work with lunch and was told you left with Tyler, laughing and planning your trip to Hawaii, saying how you’d played me,” he growled. “Are you?”

“Who told you that? That is completely ludicrous.” Kaia retorted, astounded by what she had heard. “Think about it, Chance. Remember when Syndi lied to me the night you got hit by a liquor bottle. This is the same thing.”

“No, it isn’t. Is it true?”

“Hell no, it isn’t true. I loathe Tyler and for your information, Marisol put Tyler on unpaid suspension. She’s going to fire him. Why would you think I’d want someone like him?” Kaia yelled back, her temper threatening to explode.

“You tell me!” Chance countered, slamming his glass on the counter, shattering it completely.

Kaia jumped in fright, her eyes growing as large as saucers. Then Pam stepped in, “I don’t know who in the hell you think you are talking to her that way, but for your information, Kaia’s been with me since she left work. I called her to let her know I was in town and she came over to the hotel to see me because you were not here. She was with my husband and I in a casino lounge catching up because I haven’t seen her since she left Wyoming. I’m her best friend. How dare you yell at her like this? Kaia hasn’t done a damn thing wrong. I think you owe her an apology!”

Chance glared at her coldly. “Shut your mouth, hooch!” he retorted.

“Up yours, jackass!” Pam fired back, “I am not a hooch!”

“Chance, please!” Kaia started as she walked closer to him, the broken shards of glass crunching under the soles of her shoes. “Please calm down. Whoever told you that bullshit obviously lied. You know I love you. I don’t want anyone else. Before Pam called, I was on my way home. I had planned on waiting for you to come home so we could share a little afternoon delight.”

She slipped her arms around his waist, caressing his back and sides while she stared into his blazing green eyes.

“Whatever!” chance snarled and pulled away from her. “I’ve gotta go to work. We’ll talk later! Right now, I don’t even wanna see your lying cheating face!”

“Chance Andrew Candelero!! Don’t you ever talk to me like that!” Kaia shot back, “I have done nothing wrong! You will not treat me like this! Listen to me! Remember the night I came to see you at work and you weren’t there. Syndi lied to me for her own selfish gains, saying you were out with another woman when in actuality you were not. Whoever told you that about Tyler has done the same thing. Plain and simple. Think about it!” He shot her a nasty look. “Convenient excuse, but I don’t buy it, you faithless little slut. You had better be here tonight when I get home. We’ll talk!”

With that, he pulled on his coat and walked out the door with Alex following close behind. Kaia viciously kicked one of the cabinets, howling in pain as she stubbed her toe. “Damn him!” she growled.

“Kaia, why didn’t you tell me he was like this?” Pam asked, concerned.

“He’s not, Pam. Really. He’s not like Levi. Someone fed him a pack of lies and I can tell that he’s torn. I’ll be okay. I think I know who did it and I’ll deal with her later. You will soon see that Chance is a good guy and that this is the first time we’ve ever argued.”

“Okay, but if he ever hurts you, he’ll have to deal with me. He’ll have me to answer to.” Pam vowed.

“He won’t hurt me. Chance doesn’t believe in hitting women. He’s not like that. He’ll cool off and we’ll work it out. He’ll spend the rest of the night making it up to me. I know he will,” she reassured Pam, feeling confident that Chance would get over his anger and realize once he thought about it he had jumped to an awful conclusion and apologize to her. He would surely make it up to her in the most delightful way.

Kaia and Pam spent the next couple of hours hanging out and having a good time. As she walked to the kitchen to refill their drinks, a knock came at the door. Setting the glasses down, she headed to the door, wondering who it could be.

She opened the door and peered out, a smile stretching across her face.

“Hey girl!” Madaysa chimed.

“Hi, come in!” Kaia replied as she let her in. “I figured you’d be working.”

“No, I quit that hellhole today. I landed myself a better job,” she beamed, facing a wide glowing smile.

“What? Where?” Kaia asked.

“As a showgirl.”

“WOW!! You go, girl!”

“Thank you. I was so psyched when I got the audition and I didn’t tell anyone in case I didn’t get picked so I waited and I went and they called me today. I start rehearsals tomorrow bright and early.” Madaysa explained.

“I’m so happy for you! Oh, by the way, ‘Daysa, this is my best friend, Pam. Pam meet Madaysa.”

“Hi!” Pam said, smiling at the beautiful buxom blonde.

“Hey girl, it’s so nice to meet you. Kaia has told me so much about you. I was here last night when you called her.” Madaysa replied, returning the smile. “Which leads me to the other reason I am here?”

“Which is?”

“I heard what happened with Chance.”

“And?” Kaia snapped.

“Hey now, don’t get so damn defensive about it! I believe you!” Madaysa stated, “I visited Matt at work and he told me what was up. I spoke to Chance and told him I was here yesterday when Pam called and told you she’d be coming here. He mellowed out some, but he said he didn’t know what to believe. So I guess you two will just have to hash it out.”

“Thanks, Madaysa. I didn’t cheat on him and that’s the honest truth.”

“Anytime, girlfriend! I just don’t wanna see you and Chance split up!” Madaysa replied, wistfully.

“Neither do I! I don’t want to lose him!” Kaia stated, bravely.

“Let’s hope for the best.”

Kaia nodded in agreement. Yes, hope for the best while expecting the worst. She let out a sigh as tears burned her eyes. “Why is it when I finally get my life the way I want it something bad happens to me?” she mused aloud.

“Things will work out. I know they will. He’ll come around and realize what a colossal jerk he’s been and when he does, he’ll make it up to you. You just wait!” Kaia grasped onto Madaysa’s words and clung to them as if they were gospel. “I hope you are right!”

Before Kaia drove Pam back to the hotel, she took her and Madaysa by the house she wanted. Pam heartily exclaimed over it, telling her what an excellent choice she had made. Madaysa wholeheartedly agreed. At the hotel they bade each other goodnight and made plans for a double date in the next few days.

It overjoyed Kaia to see her best friend after eight months of being apart. She let out a contented sigh as she drove towards the apartment. She planned on taking a bubble bath and relaxing before Chance came home.

“Kaia, what do you think about going to see Chance?” Madaysa asked.

“Do you think I should?” Kaia questioned in return, knowing he had said they would talk when he came home later that night.

“Yes, I do. If he’s really mellowed out and thinking rationally, then now is a good time.” Madaysa replied.

“Okay, I’ll do that. Thanks.”

“Like I said, anytime. You’re one of the bestest friends I’ve had in a long time and I just want you to be happy.”

Kaia quickly headed in the direction of The Jungle Room, hoping to talk to Chance. She knew she had to make him believe her. For she knew she could not live without him.

As she pulled into the parking lot, she spotted his truck and parked beside it. Her heart raced, pounding loudly in her ears and her palms grew sweaty. Why am I so nervous?, she thought to herself. She’d done nothing wrong. She flashed Madaysa a look of uncertainty and sucked in a deep breath,

“It’s okay, Kaia,” Madaysa reassured her.

Kaia nodded. Stepping out and locking the car door, she headed for the club entrance where Joe sat outside.

“Hi,” she put on a sweet smile.

“Hello, gorgeous. Looking for Chance?” he asked.

“Yep, I’ve come to see him.”

“He’s inside.” Turning his gaze towards Madaysa, he glanced her up and down, mentally undressing her as his eyes took a walk over her sleek body, a leer settling over his face. “Back so soon? Must be my lucky night. You’re Matt’s girl, right?”

“Yes!” Madaysa gritted out.

“What a lucky man he is! I didn’t think Matt could catch a hot sexy woman like you.”

“Pervert!” Madaysa retorted as she stormed off.

“Have a good one, ladies.” Joe chuckled, as he watched Madaysa’s tantalizing backside swing like a bell as she made her way across the bar.

Kaia followed Madaysa inside, feeling as if she’d stepped outside of herself. The room suddenly spun as she spotted Chance at the other end of the bar talking to two very attractive females. She let out a heavy sigh wondering how she could face him? Why? Why now? Why did life have to throw her this curve ball just when she was at her happiest?

She shook her head, drew in a deep breath and approached the bar, sitting down next to Madaysa who was staring lustily at Matt as he fixed a drink for a lady on the other side of the bar. Kaia’s gaze settled back on Chance who was now leaning down on the bar surface talking to one of the women. He laughed loudly and she watched the woman touch Chance’s hair, running her fingers through it. Kaia looked away, unable to bear the thought of another woman putting her hands on Chance. He’s mine, her heart screamed.

She shook her head and looked back at Madaysa. “He seems busy.”

“So it seems.” Madaysa replied and waved at Matt as he turned around. He smiled widely, winked and walked over to her.

“Back already, babe,” he grinned as he leaned forward to kiss her. As he pulled away, he raked a disdainful glance over Kaia. “What brings you here?”

Glancing down the bar at Chance, he spoke again. “You here to see him?”

“Yes, I wanted to talk to him.” Kaia replied.

Matt shook his head, then let out a loud whistle and hollered, “Hey Chance!”

Chance turned around to look in the direction his name had been called, pulling the blonde’s hand from his hair. His gaze slowly raked the bar area. He saw Matt and Madaysa then he fixed his eyes on the person sitting next to her. Kaia! How dare she come here? He sighed and walked towards them, scowling.

“What brings you here?” he asked, tersely.

“I wanted to see you. I thought we could talk,” she replied, noting his tone.

“Dammit, Madaysa, why did you bring her here?” Chance retorted.

“So you two could talk and work this out.” Madaysa simply replied.

“Next time, don’t! Matt, tell your hooch to keep her nose out of my business.” Matt flashed him a dirty look. ” Don’t insult my woman. Unlike yours, she’s not a hooch!” Matt retorted, leading Madaysa away.

Chance snorted. “Do you want a drink?” he asked as he leaned against the bar in front of her.

“Yes, please. That would be fine.” “Usual?”

“No, actually I think I’ll have an Amaretto Sour.” Kaia shook her head. “Can we talk?”

“Why? What about?”

“Because I didn’t do anything wrong,” she replied. “Why won’t you believe me, honey?”

“Don’t call me that. And how dare you drag Madaysa into this? I’m only going to say it once. Go home, Kaia. Now is not the time. We’re busy here.” Chance growled. “We will talk later!”

“No, Chance! I don’t want to talk later! I didn’t do anything wrong. So obviously we have nothing to talk about. You were lied to. You know I wouldn’t do that to you. I love you too much.” Kaia retorted.

“Go home!”

“No, I don’t want to go home, Chance! Did you stop to think that maybe Madaysa and I would like to hang out here for a while? And furthermore, you never had a problem with me being here before when you were at work. Or is it that you would rather flirt with those bimbos over there?” she growled back.

“The only bimbo I see here is you. I’m warning you, Kaia. If you do not leave now, I will have you escorted out. We will talk later. I mean it! Are we understood?” Chance sneered.
