A Chance To Love Ch. 25

A year had passed since Levi had holed up in a seedy Las Vegas motel. A whole year and he hadn’t found her yet. It angered and enraged him that she had eluded him thus far. Challen, the woman he’d abducted after his escape, had been little help to him. He’d discarded her lifeless body in the desert once she’d outlived her usefulness to him. Before he’d murdered her, he’d forced her to sell her car and give him the money. Levi knew he had to find Kaia soon. His money was running low and he could be sure if he wasn’t careful he’d be caught and sent back to Wyoming, putting Kaia out of his reach indefinitely.

As he walked along “The Strip” one sultry summer’s night, he saw something that caught his eye. He stopped, pulled his cap down low, and put on a pair of sunglasses, hiding behind a group of camera toting tourists. He took in the scene before him with blatant interest. He wondered what Wade Robbins was doing in Las Vegas. A blonde haired female joined him and he blinked, not believing his eyes. Could it really be Kaia? He ventured another long look and realized it was Kara, not Kaia. Why was Kara with Wade Robbins here in Las Vegas?

Then out of the Rosewood Grille walked a man he’d seen before…the bartender from one of the bars he’d looked for Kaia in. His jaw dropped to the ground as Kaia walked out behind the long haired bartender, looking stunning in a tight skimpy white leather tube top with skinny straps and a matching white ankle length tube skirt with slits up the side to her thigh. She grasped the bartender’s hand and smiled up at him. Levi’s eyes raked over her. Kaia had changed, her once dark hair now as blonde as her sister’s.

Finally after a year there she was…there she was with another man. He vowed to get even with the little whore. He continued to watch as Kaia’s brother, Brandon and four other people joined them. Levi vowed Kaia would pay for this, pay for leaving him and pay for being with another man.

He followed behind the group as they crossed the street and headed for Caesar’s Palace. Stealthily he kept an eye on them as they walked through the casino and picked a craps table to play at. Levi chuckled, sinisterly, putting his evil mind to work as his eyes raked over Kaia and Kara. Soon, he vowed, soon he would have the whoring bitch in his clutches.

Kaia’s cries of joy peeled out as she rolled another seven at the craps table. She kissed Chance passionately and reveled in his embrace. The past three months for them had been perfect in every way. Their love had flourished once again. Their happiness together knew no bounds. Chance left his bartending job at The Jungle Room and took a construction job so his work hours coincided with Kaia’s, freeing up his nights to spend with her and their daughter.

Kaia collected her winnings and headed for the change booth to cash them in.

“I never knew my sister could be so lucky.” Kara sneered, her voice dripping with venom.

“Kara, will you just chill?” Brandon replied, throwing a nasty look at his half-sister.

“Why should I?”

Chance glared at Kaia’s twin. “You may be Kaia’s twin, but I have to tell you that you are a jealous bitch. You can’t stand it that your own sister has it better than you. She has it all and you hate it.”

“Maybe you ought to keep your nose out of family business!” Kara retorted, acidly. “Who in the hell do you think you are?”

“I’m the one who loves Kaia.”

“If you love her, why’d you hurt her the way you did? You weren’t even there when your own daughter was born.” Kara shot back, getting her digs in at Chance.

“What is that compared to the fact that you’ve spent your whole life hurting her, making fun of her, humiliating her because she wasn’t as thin as you. So don’t you even go there. And furthermore, the only reason she allowed you to visit is because your brother and sisters were coming with you. She didn’t want to see you. She did it as a favor to your mother.” Chance retorted.

Kara gasped in shock, glaring at him with eyes colder than ice. “We’ll see what she says.”

“Kaia will tell you the same thing that I did!”

“HA! She wouldn’t dare speak to me that way. I’m family. You’re not!”

Chance bellowed in laughter. “You think she won’t. If you think she’s the same person she was a few years ago, you are dead wrong. She’s not. I didn’t know her then…” he said before Kara rudely interrupted him.

“You wouldn’t have wanted to. Say, do you know how fat she was? Kaia wasn’t always the way she is now. Or did she even tell you?” Kara snarled.

“Yes, I know all about it. She told me. It doesn’t matter to me. If I had met her back then, I would’ve loved her as much as I do now because she’s beautiful no matter what. I love her and she’s going to be my wife.”

“You may be hot, but you’re as much of a loser as she is.” Kara retorted, tossing her hair back and scowling at him.

“No, I’d say you are the only loser here. You’re jealous of her and you know it. And anyway why were you hitting on me if I’m such a loser? Why is it you said you were the better sister?” Chance shot back vehemently, corning her.

“I didn’t want you. It’s a game, that’s all. I had to see if I could take you from her. It’s not like I find you attractive or anything. You aren’t my type.”

Chance chuckled, “You are one pathetic bitch.”

Kara rolled her eyes and sneered at him. “So where’d my twin go?”

Chance looked around, but didn’t see Kaia. It was odd that she hadn’t come back yet from cashing in her chips. “I’ll go look for her,” he said and walked in the direction she’d gone. Moments later he found her at a roulette table with Madaysa and Matt. “There you are,” he said. “I was beginning to wonder where you’d gone.”

Kaia smiled at him. “Madaysa had to tell me something.”

“Shall we?” Chance asked. “Or do you want to stay here?”

“Let’s head back over to the craps table. See you in a bit, ‘Daysa.” Kaia chimed.

“Later, girl.”

Chance led her away towards where he’d left her siblings. “Your sister is one mean bitch,” he said, bluntly.

“Tell me about it.” Kaia laughed. “What’d she do now?”

“She felt the need to be concerned about you where I’m concerned even though she tried hitting on me.”

“Figures.”

“I told her flat out what I thought of her. I don’t think she liked it, but like I really care.”

“I’m sure she’ll play the victim when I get back over there.” Kaia scoffed. “She’ll turn this into one of her melodramas. Is it wrong to wish she’d never come here?”

“No, it’s not, Kaia. You two have never been close despite the fact you are twins. Just be cool and she’ll be gone in a few days, alright?” Chance suggested, sliding his arms around her.

“I will, but you know I hated leaving Brooke and Britnee at home to watch Autumn and Madison, but they are too young to gamble.” Kaia stated, snuggling into Chance.

“I’m sure you’ll find a way to make it up to them. I know, we’ll take them to Wet N’ Wild.”

“That’d be great. They both love water parks. You’re a genius. We’ll make a family outing of it.”

“And you are beautiful. I love you,” he said as he stopped to kiss her, pulling her closer.

“I love you, too. Now let’s…” Kaia gasped, stopping in mid-sentence as she caught a glimpse of Levi.

“What’s wrong?”

“I saw Levi. He was watching us.” Kaia panicked.

“Don’t worry, doll. I’ll protect you.” Chance replied. “He won’t get near you.”

“Promise me.”

“Cross my heart,” he vowed. “Now let’s go.”

“Can we go somewhere else? Like another casino or home?”

“No, don’t let that bastard ruin our fun.” Chance replied.

“What if he talks to Kara? She’ll tell him anything he wants and needs to know. She’s done it before.”

“We’ll make sure she doesn’t.” Chance reassured her.

“I trust you.” Kaia drew in a breath and tried to ignore the niggling feelings deep inside. What if he’d been following her? What if he knew where she lived? Knew where she worked? What about Madison’s safety? Her mind spun headlong into panic as she thought of what he’d do to her or Madison if he caught either of them? He’d vowed to kill her once before. Would he make do on his threat? She grew short on breath and her palms became sweaty. Chance noticed the change.

“Kaia, calm down. I won’t let him get near you.”

“He scares me. What if he gets me or Maddie? He’ll kill me and her!” Kaia blurted out.

“Don’t let him know that! You’re pale as a ghost!”

“What’d you do to my sister? She’s white as a sheet!” Kara exclaimed, heatedly.

“I did nothing to her. She saw Levi!”

“That bastard is here!” Wade retorted. ” Damnit!”

Chance caught Kara’s smirk. “Don’t you even think about it!” he growled at her. ” You are not giving your sister away to him.”

“Why would I do that?” she mocked, deviously.

“Kara, please. You know he’ll kill me or do you even give a damn? I have a child who doesn’t deserve to be without her mother!” Kaia retorted. “I know you used to fill his head full of lies. You used to egg him on so he’d beat me. It was just another way for you to humiliate me.”

“What will you give me?” Kara replied, preying on her sister’s vulnerability as she’d done so many times in the past.

“How dare you! I won’t give you a damn thing. You haven’t changed at all. You are still the same conniving bitch you always were. I pity Autumn for having a mother like you.” Kaia shot back, her anger building. “Wade, I know you like her, but do you really want her knowing she’d sell me out to Levi just like that? I know you are with her only because you can’t have me, but she’ll never be me. Think about it. She’s only using you. You can do better. I don’t know what went on between you and Morgan, but you don’t need my sister.”

Kara stared back at her with blatant anger flashing in her eyes. “Don’t cross me, sis. Wade’s just a sick puppy who’ll do anything for me.”

“Like hell, bitch!” Wade retorted, speaking up for himself.

“Whatever, but you know you liked it. I didn’t even care that you called me by her name when we had sex last night. It wasn’t all that good, anyway.” Kara countered, leveling a malevolent glare at Wade.

“Probably because you’re too damn cold to know what good sex is. Being with you was like being with a dead fish. Even Damian used to say so behind your back. You know what, screwing you was like screwing the Grand Canyon.” Wade rebuked, taking no prisoners.

Kara’s face turned white then beet red with utter embarrassment, her anger seething. “You wait! You’ll see who has the last laugh,” she vowed as she walked away, heading for the ladies room to sulk.

“The nerve of her.” Kaia exclaimed. “Dammit, Wade, I can’t believe you slept with my sister. What happened with you and Morgan?”

“We’re friends, that’s all. She needed space so we chilled things for a while. As for Kara, she offered so I took her up on it. Bad mistake.”

“I’d say.”

“What are we going to do now?” Chance asked, changing the subject. “Are we going to gamble more or what?”

“Yes, let’s gamble more. We’d better wait on Kara, though.” Kaia replied. “So, little brother, are you looking forward to getting married?”

“Yes, I am.” Brandon said. “I wish you could be there, though.”

“As do I, but with work being busy like it is and the fact that I just came off maternity leave not too long ago, I doubt I could get any time off.”

“The wedding is on a Saturday, though. You could fly in Friday night and leave Sunday,” he suggested.

“I sure could. Count Chance, Maddie and I there.”

“Great!” Brandon smiled, “I’ll make sure to come to yours when you and Chance tie the knot.”

“Hey, girl, when are you going to make an honest man out if this wild coyote?” Madaysa teased as she, Matt, Carson and his date joined them.

Kaia giggled and looked at Chance, “Well, I suppose you need to ask him or am I supposed to do the proposing?”

Chance smiled, “Honey, I’ll marry you any day,” he quipped as he embraced her. “You name it.”

“Hell, I’d say now, but I’d love to have my whole family present. I want my dad to give me away.”

“I understand, doll face. We’ll discuss this later.”

“Promise?”

“Cross my heart,” he replied, kissing her tenderly, thinking of the ring he’d planned on giving her. “I love you, lady.”

“I love you, too.”

As Kara walked out of the restroom, a tall male pulled her aside. She gasped and struggled against the steely grip of the hand on her wrist. Pulling her into a fern bedecked alcove, he loosened his hold on her.

“Hello, Kara!”

“What do you want, Levi?”

“Do you need to ask? You should know the answer to that,” he replied.

“Kaia!”

“Precisely!”

“Dream on, Levi!” Kara retorted.

“Since when did you become so noble? I overheard your argument with her and Wade and that guy she’s with,” Levi shot back.

“Can’t you leave her alone? She has a child now.”

“Does she? Too bad for that brat! I won’t leave her alone until she’s dead!”

“What do you expect me to do?” Kara retorted, indignantly.

“Help me. I know you hate her. Help me rid the world of that whore.” Levi growled. “Just think you’ll have your fondest wish not to have a twin anymore.”

“Why should I?”

“Because you hate her!?!?!?!?!” Levi exclaimed, in a fit of exasperation.

“You are a wanted man. The F.B.I. has been looking for you for over a year now. If you think I’ll help you then you must be crazy. I’m not going to prison just to be rid of my stupid sister.” “No one will know you helped me. All you have to do is give me her home address, phone number and where she works. Then I’ll leave you out of it.”

“Are you sure?”

“Sure, I’m sure. I promise you.”

“Alright, but I need to get back.”

“Write it down and I’ll tell you where I’m staying.” Levi urged, lapping the information up like a madman, a crazed look in his eyes.

Kara did as he asked, handing him the information she’d written down. She made her way back to where everyone stood after getting the hotel name and room number only stopping to flirt with a handsome guy she saw on the way. She led him on, using him for her own purpose.

“What took you so long?” Kaia growled.

“I found someone who caught my eye. Everyone meet Rob,” she purred as she hung on his arm. “Isn’t he gorgeous?”

The tall dark haired man smiled down at her, enjoying the beautiful girl’s attention. “Nice to meet you,” he replied as he cuddled Kara.

Kaia shot her sister a vicious look which Kara noticed right off. “Now whose jealous, dear sister?” Kara purred, tauntingly. “I found a better looking man than you did.”

Kaia snickered, “If you think so.”

“Can you just go do something?” Brandon sighed, tired of Kaia and Kara’s constant bickering. “How about we go down to Treasure Island? I’d like to see the pirate battle.”

“Let’s go!”

Three days later, Levi put his plan into action. He coerced Kara into helping him and late that day they hid out near Kaia’s workplace. Kara knew Kaia would be working late; knew Kaia had told Chance not to wait up for her. Less than a half a dozen cars were in the parking lot of the computer graphics company. Their plan was flawless. Now to await Kaia.

It was full dark, nearing 11 p.m., with only a sliver of light coming from the crescent shaped moon and a few dimly lit lamps in the parking lot. Kaia exited the building, her shoulders sagging; a clear testament to her fatigue. Levi knew she would be easy prey.

He waited until she was beside her car, unlocking it with a keyless entry remote. She yawned tiredly and dropped her keys by mistake. Groaning, she knelt to pick them up and swooned as she became lightheaded. Kaia leaned against the door as the sensation passed. As she stood erect, a hand grabbed her from behind and slammed her against the car.

She let out a startled cry and struggled to break free, but could not for he was too strong. Unable to see his face, she breathlessly asked, “What do you want?”

“Your worthless life, bitch,” was his cold reply.

Chills ran up and down her spine. She knew that steely voice all too well and panic washed over her, flooding her mind with a torrent of fear. “Levi!” Kaia gasped as she held back the tears.

“That’s right,” he growled through clenched teeth. “Prepare to die.”

“No, please,” she whispered.

“Mercy is for losers, bitch. You will suffer. You will beg for a thousand deaths by the time I am through with you. I’ll cut you into a million tiny pieces so no one will ever find you.”

“No!”

Levi clubbed her on the head, rendering her unconscious before he stuffed her prone body into the back seat. He then whistled for Kara, who joined him immediately. “Get in!” he ordered as he pushed her towards her sister.

Grabbing the keys, he sat in the leather clad seats, reveling in the car’s blatant luxury. “Damn, the bitch has fine taste in cars. This baby oughta fetch a bundle, don’t ya think? Enough to get me out of the country.”

“When can I go home?” Kara asked, unconcerned with Kaia, her car or Levi.

“You’re not,” he retorted, with a dry evil laugh. “You are just as doomed as she is.”

“You bastard!” Kara screeched before receiving a stunning blow to her head. He smiled contentedly as his hand connected and he watched her slump in the seat against Kaia.

He let loose a devious laugh and drove the car off the lot. He headed across town to a different small seedy motel located near a rental storage unit where he’d rented a unit large enough to hide the car in. Once parked in front of the door to his rented room, he carried each girl inside and tied each down to the double beds before hiding the car in the unit he’d rented for that purpose.

Now to take care of Kaia, he sneered then laughed heartily. This he would enjoy.

Chance pulled into the garage after taking Madison to visit his cousins and noted that Kaia hadn’t made it home. He knew, though, that she had said tonight would be another late night like the past two nights and remembered how this morning she’d told him not to wait up for her. He frowned as his hopes were dashed that she’d be there so he could share the good news with her. He’d asked for the weekend of Brandon’s wedding off and his request was granted. Also his request for a week off had been approved. He looked forward to their Hawaii trip and hoped it would be their honeymoon for he would soon propose. He thought of the antique ring setting that had been passed down through his mother’s family and how perfect it would be for an engagement ring for her. Now to find the perfect diamond to complete it.

He put Madison down to bed after feeding her a bottle of cereal and changing her diaper. As he shrugged out of his clothes and readied for bed, he thought of how tender and exquisite their lovemaking had been the night before. His heart blossomed with intense love and his loins burned with ultimate need of her. He glanced at the side of the bed where she slept and felt a poignant ache because she was not there. Yet he reveled in the memories of the night before as they assailed his senses with much pleasure.

He longed to hold her, love her, to be one with her. He longed for her to walk through that door and join him in wild bliss. He sighed heavily as a sense of something amiss niggled at his heart. He yawned, ignoring it, and crawled beneath the sheets to await Kaia. Sleepily, he closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.
