A Chance To Love Ch. 26-27

Kaia awoke, groaning, her head pounding. She tried desperately to move, but soon realized her arms and legs were tied to the bed with long strips of a sheet. She struggled against the bonds that held her in a valiant effort to free herself, but only managed to tire herself. Glancing side to side, she saw a figure on the bed next to hers. Female? Who was it? The bound female was as naked as she herself was. Straining, she did her best to recognize whoever it was.

Something seemed familiar about the woman and after a few intense seconds, she realized it was Kara. Why was Kara here? Why had Levi tied Kara down after she’d helped him so many times in the past? Would he punish her as well? Would they both die? Kaia shivered at the thought and strained against the ties that bound her to the bed, testing their strength.

“Don’t waste your strength, bitch.” Levi taunted as he stood over her, looking down at her prone body.

“What do you want from me, Levi?” Kaia snarled at him.

“I want to teach you a lesson. You are my bitch. Mine. I own you. Did you really think you could run away from me? Did you think I wouldn’t find you?” Levi retorted as he climbed on the bed and straddled her bound, naked body.

Kaia sucked in a deep breath as his buttocks pressed against her stomach. She let out a whimper.

“Shut up, whore,” he growled as he drew back his hand and slapped her in the face.

“Please don’t hit me. I’ll do anything…anything you want,” she calmly pleaded, trying not to panic.

Levi bellowed in laughter. “Good one, bitch,” he twisted her nipples between her fingers roughly as she cried out in pain.

“Stop it.” Kaia ordered.

“Hell no, bitch.”

“Levi, please. Remember how good we used to have it after we first met. Remember our first date. Remember how good it was. We made love for the first time. It was incredible. You made me feel so good. You were gentle. Do that for me and I swear to you I’ll do anything for you.” Kaia pleaded as she hoped to protect the precious jewel of life growing within her body.

“You were a whore then and you’re a whore now. Don’t you even try to sweet talk me. You will pay dearly for what you did. If you hadn’t have left me, I wouldn’t be running and hiding from the law. If you hadn’t have left me, Camryn wouldn’t be dead. I wouldn’t have had to take up with that whoring bitch. She’s just like you. You are all whores.” Levi replied. “I don’t want you after you’ve been with another man and had another man’s child. You are as good as dead.”

“Why is Kara here?” Kaia asked.

“She helped me capture you, but I couldn’t leave her to tell everyone who kidnapped you. Her fate is the same as yours and I will enjoy killing you both. I have plans for her first. I’m gonna enjoy using her,” he laughed evilly, as he climbed off of Kaia and headed for the other bed.

Kaia knew she shouldn’t do or say anything to provoke him. Even Kara didn’t deserve to be forced into one of his demanding sexual assaults, but how could she stop him?

A cracking noise rang out as Levi’s hand connected with Kara’s face. She let out a cry of pain, high and keening, nearly gut-wrenching. “Stop!” Kaia called out, defending her sister. “Stop it now!”

“Shut up, bitch or Kara will get a slap every time you open your mouth when you’re not supposed to. You speak when I tell you that you’re allowed. Understand me?”

“Yes.” Kaia replied, hating to obey, but knowing he’d beat Kara black and blue if she didn’t.

Levi stripped off his clothes and crawled between Kara’s spread legs. She moaned a denial.

“C’mon, Kara, you know you want it. It isn’t like we haven’t done it before. Remember the afternoon fuckfests we had while your sis was at work. Remember, do ya?” he goaded, devilishly.

“You bastard, you jackass, your cheating piece of shit! You slept with my sister!?!?” Kaia blurted out, her anger taking over.

Her outburst was followed by two harsh slapping noises of Levi’s hand striking Kara’s face and the thud of his fist connecting with her stomach. Kara let out a loud moan and an agonized whimper of pain. Yet Kaia continued to rail obscenities at him, provoking his anger even more. Kara moaned and cried as he struck her repeatedly, his blows becoming harder each time.

“Stop…please…Levi, stop!” Kara begged, helplessly, her voice a pained whisper. “Kaia, shut up!”

Levi halted his devastating blows when Kaia fell silent, halting the insults she flung at him. He repositioned himself between Kara’s legs and took her viciously, savagely, his hard deep thrusts piercing her nether core painfully. Kara groaned and let out a chilling cry.

Kaia had no choice other than to listen and remember all too well how painful and rough sex was with Levi. It seemed as if he took delight in it, reveled in it. He continued, his thrusts becoming ever deep and harder by the moment until she let out a tortured scream. He clubbed her in the head, admonishing her to be quiet. She whimpered pitifully, enduring his painful thrusting.

With a roar of relief, he finished in an intense orgasm. Quickly he pulled out before his seed spewed out within her. Sated he crawled off of her and pulled his clothes back on. He left Kara’s bed and returned to Kaia’s, lying down beside her.

“Now be quiet. I’m going to sleep for a while. Wake me up and there will be hell to pay.”

Chance awoke to the hungry cries of his daughter. Glancing at the clock, a puzzled look came over his face. Kaia’s side of the bed hadn’t been slept in. How odd? Had she even come home?

“Kaia?” he called out, wondering if she were downstairs and might hear him or Madison over the baby monitor. Sliding out of bed, he quickly dressed and picked up Madison then checked and changed her diaper, putting a clean one piece suit on her. She stopped her crying as he carried her downstairs, but noted how she rooted on his shirt.

In the kitchen he found Britnee spoon feeding Autumn some strained fruit.

“Have you seen Kaia? And where’s Kara?” he asked ad he looked at the little girl.

“Kara didn’t come home last night and I haven’t see Kaia either.” Britnee replied.

“Hmmm.” Chance wondered as he pulled a baby bottle of freshly pumped breast milk out of the refrigerator and heated it before letting Madison have it. “Kaia isn’t at home either.”

“She may be still at work.” Britnee suggested.

“No, if she was, she would’ve called.” Chance replied, knowing something wasn’t right. He knew Kaia wouldn’t stay that long at work knowing she had a child at home. “When was the last time you saw Kara?”

“About 9 or so. She said she had a date. She left here in a taxi.” Britnee said as she spooned strained oatmeal into the little girl’s mouth.

“And she hasn’t come back yet?”

“If Kara were, I wouldn’t be feeding Autumn.” Britnee quipped.

“I’ll call Kaia’s work.” Chance said as he walked over to the cordless phone and dialed the number for SofGraphix, Kaia’s place of work.

“SofGraphix Software. This is Lenore. How may I direct your call?”

“I need Kaia O’ Neill, please.” Chance said, praying she’d be there.

“She hasn’t come in yet. Shall I transfer you to her voice mail?”

“No. Is Morgan Ralston available?”

“One moment.”

Chance tapped his foot impatiently while waiting for Morgan to pick up the line.

“Morgan Ralston speaking. How may I help you?” she said as she picked up her phone.

“Hi, Morgan, it’s Chance.”

“Hello, Chance. How are you doing?” she asked, surprised to get a call from him. “What’s up?”

“Did you work late with Kaia last night?”

“Yes, I did. Why?”

“When did she leave?”

“Eleven. I left 15 minutes after she did. Her car wasn’t in the parking lot when I left. What’s going on?”

“Kaia didn’t come home last night. As a matter of fact, she still isn’t home. I am worried. I can’t imagine where she’d be or why she hasn’t called. What’s worse, her sister, Kara isn’t her either.”

“Perhaps you should call the police and report them missing. Do you think this may have something to do with Levi?”

“I think so. She saw him in a crowd the other night when we were all out at the casinos. It scared her.”

“Call the police, Chance. It’s the only way you can save her from that madman.” Morgan urged.

“I promised her that I’d protect her.” Chance choked out, fighting desperation from taking hold of his heart.

“But how could you know when or where he’d strike? We don’t even know when he did.” Morgan rationalized.

“It had to be after she left work. Do you think he could’ve found out where she worked?”

“It’s possible. Didn’t you say Kara wasn’t there?”

“Yes, she’s not here.”

“Could she have talked to Levi somewhere, sometime and told him whatever he wanted to know? Kaia told me she had done it before.”

“That’s a definite possibility. She would do that. I’ll call the Metro Police. The F.B.I. has been after him since he escaped from jail. Maybe now they’ll catch him.” Chance replied.

“Keep me posted, okay?”

“I will, Morgan. I also have to call her folks,” he said, as he fought the urge to break down. “I’ll kill the bastard if he hurts her.”

“This must be tearing you up.” Morgan remarked, sympathetically. “Especially since I just got her back not too long ago. Things have been so good. It’s so unfair.”

“She’ll be okay. She’ll be found.” Morgan said as she prayed for the best.

“I hope so because I don’t know how Madison and I would live without her.” Chance replied, softly.

“Don’t think like that, Chance. We’ll get her back. You know what you have to do.” Morgan reasoned. ” Stay calm, stay focused and make that call.”

“I will. I can’t lose her. Not now. Not again.”

Morgan paused, “I was going to walk out to the car with her, but I had forgotten something and went back for it. Kaia didn’t want to wait for me because she was in a hurry to get home to you. She said she had something important to tell you and couldn’t wait any longer.”

“What is it? Did she tell you?” he asked, wondering what it might be.

“Yes, she did. She wanted you to be the first to know, but she couldn’t hold back telling me.”

“What?”

“Kaia is pregnant again!” Morgan replied, “She couldn’t wait to get home to tell you.”

“Pregnant?” Chance repeated, ” I’ll kill that son of a bitch if he hurts her! How long has she known?”

“She took a home test yesterday while we were on lunch break. It came out positive. She couldn’t wait to get home to tell you, but we’ve been so swamped here that she couldn’t get away as early as she wanted to.” Morgan explained.

“I can’t believe she’s pregnant again so soon. Madison is only three months old.”

“I need to go now, Chance. You make those calls and keep me posted, ok?” Morgan replied with concern.

“I will. Thanks for telling me.”

“You’re welcome.”

“Bye, Morgan.”

“Later.”

He set aside the phone and drew in a deep apprehensive breath. Kaia’s pregnant? A breath caught in his throat, suspended. His heart seemed to cease beating. His world spun out of control. He sunk to the floor, still clutching Madison. Why? Why now?

His long flowing hair fell around him, covering his arms and upper legs. He let out a sob as Madison echoed a smothered squall of her own. Why? Why?

Pregnant?!?!? His mind screamed. He blindly stared at the floor. Why now? Why now when her life could be in danger? Why now when Levi could have her in her evil clutches? Why?

He took in a deep breath and brushed the tears from his cheeks. Pulling himself off the floor, he dashed to the stairs and took them by twos. At the top he crossed the bridged hallway into the master bedroom and sat down on the bed. He burped Madison and laid her in the middle, surrounding her with pillows. He reached for Kaia’s address book and leafed through the pages until he came to her parent’s phone number. He dialed it, but received no answer. He cursed then located the number for her step dad’s medical practice. Quickly he dialed it.

“Marshall & Powell Gynecological Associates. How may I help you?” a woman asked.

“I need to speak to Dr. Marshall.”

“He’s unavailable at the moment. How may I help you?” she replied.

“You can’t. I need to speak to Dr. Marshall. This is about his daughter, Kaia and it is very, very urgent. I’m calling long distance and it is very important.” Chance related, frantically.

“Who may I ask is calling?”

“Chance Candelero, Kaia’s fiancé.”

“I’ll put you through,” she said. “Hold one moment, please.”

A few minutes later, Christopher Marshall picked up the call. “Chance, what’s going on? What’s so important? What is wrong with my daughter?”

“Which one do you want to hear first?” Chance asked, wryly. “The bad news or the even worse news?”

“What? No good news?” Christopher teased.

“Well, there is some good news. Kaia is pregnant again.”

“So soon?” Christopher chuckled, “You two have been busy, haven’t you? Don’t ya think you two should consider a trip to the wedding chapel pretty soon?”

“I have a ring and plan on proposing to her. That leads me to the bad news. A friend of Kaia’s told me about her pregnancy. It seems she took a pregnancy test while at work yesterday, but that’s the last time I saw her. She didn’t come home last night and what more, Kara was last seen around 9 p.m. when she left the house to supposedly go out on a date. I knew Kaia would be working late. She told me not to wait up for her. It wasn’t until I woke up earlier that I realized she hadn’t been home.”

“Kara would do that, but not Kaia. Not with a baby at home.” Christopher reasoned. “Have you called the police yet?”

“Actually, that’s my next call. I think Levi is involved somehow. Kaia said she saw him in a crowd of people a few days ago when we were out at the casinos.” Chance replied.

“Make those calls. You know what you must do. You know it isn’t like Kaia not to come home or call. Kara would and has before, but not Kaia. Call the authorities, the F.B.I., the local police,” Kaia’s stepfather urged.

“Believe me, I will. When I talked to her friend at work and she told me that Kaia had taken the pregnancy test, she told me that Kaia was in a rush to get home so she could tell me the news. Morgan said she would’ve walked out with her to the car, but had forgotten something and Kaia didn’t want to wait. I think Levi found out where Kaia worked from Kara and jumped her in the parking lot. Morgan said when she left that Kaia’s car was gone when she came out about fifteen minutes later.”

“I can’t see Kara doing that to her own sister,” Christopher replied, in disbelief.

“Kara admitted to Kaia the other night that she had given Levi information in the past when Kaia and Levi were dating which Levi used to beat Kaia over. Kaia begged Kara not to let Levi know where she was and all Kara could ask was what Kaia would give her to buy her silence. So knowing that I won’t put it past her.” Chance told him, relating the events that happened.

“Those two have never gotten along. I think Kara was always jealous of Kaia because Kaia was always the smart one. I raised both of them since they were babies when I married their mother. Kaia got perfect marks in school and Kara didn’t, though Kara was always the more popular one. I still think Kara is jealous of her sister because now Kaia has thinned down she is actually and I hate to say this, but Kaia is prettier than Kara and I think Kara knows it.”

“I would agree there.” Chance said as he picked Madison back up, holding her to his chest. “Man, I wish I had called the law on him the other night.”

“Hindsight is always 20/20, son. Tell ya what, my wife and I will fly down tonight and be there if you need help with Madison. After all, our children are already there. Caroline will probably fall apart when I tell her. If you hear anything, call me back. I’ll let you know what time we’re flying in and what airline we’ll be on.”

“Thanks, I’ll pick you up. I’m going to call off work today.” Chance said, “I’ll see you later then.”

“Call me if you find out anything, if one or both of them come home or are found. Lord only knows what Levi might do to them! We’ll see you this evening.”

“I will. See you then.”

“Thanks for calling and let our kids know we’ll be down.”

“Sure will.”

“Bye, Chance.”

“Bye,” Chance said then dialed the number for the nearest F.B.I. office and told them everything he knew about Kaia’s disappearance and her link to Levi. The agent questioned Chance thoroughly to gather all the facts. After speaking to them, Chance called the Las Vegas Metro Police and told them everything he’d told the F.B.I. His last call was to call off work.

Then the waiting game began.

Chapter 27

Three weeks passed and no trace of Levi, Kaia or Kara could be found despite the heavy media attention. The F.B.I. confiscated video tapes from Caesar’s Palace that showed footage of Levi in the casino the same night Kaia was there. Captured on tape was also Levi dragging Kara into the alcove. In a desperate attempt to find the two missing girls, Chance went public with a $1 million dollar reward for information leading to the arrest of Levi Colyer and the safe return of both Kaia and Kara. He put up missing posters everywhere allowed and prayed for a miracle that both would be found alive.

He held his breath when news came that a female body was found in the desert and prayed it wasn’t Kaia or Kara. He breathed a heavy sigh of relief when she was identified as a woman who’d been reported missing several months before, an apparent victim of murder.

Another week passed before Chance found a tidbit of information. Levi had been sighted near the Desert Moon Motel with a black luxury car fitting the description of Kaia’s Lexus. Turning the tip over to the authorities, the motel was searched. Traces of Levi’s fingerprints could be found along with blood that matched the murdered woman found in the desert, but no trace of Kaia or Kara could be found. The motel manager reported that Levi had been staying there for a few months under the name James Levy, but had paid his bill and left earlier that week.

Early the next morning, Kaia’s bank phoned to report a large sum of cash had been withdrawn from an ATM machine at a casino. Chance wisely asked them to freeze the account until Kaia’s whereabouts were known. Upon that he called her credit card companies and had them do the same. A phone tap to allow tracing was placed on Kaia’s phone in case Levi called about the reward money.

The next day nearing noon, the phone rang. Quickly, Chance answered it. “Hello.”

“So you’re looking for me,” a steely voice grated.

“Is this Levi?” Chance asked, hoping to trace the phone number he was calling from.

“Perhaps.”

“Where’s Kaia?”

“Ah-ah-ah! Let’s talk money. Let’s talk about how you said you’d never seen Kaia when I showed you her picture. Do you think I’d forgotten? Kaia is mine. She belongs to me. She has always belonged to me.” Levi retorted.

“Kaia hates you.”

“Maybe she does and maybe she doesn’t,” Levi nonchalantly quipped, “But she’s been warming my bed now for a month. How incredible it’s been to be with two insatiable twins? You couldn’t even imagine!”

“You’re lying!” Chance growled.

“How do you know, pretty boy?”

“I know Kaia. She loathes you.” Chance retorted. “I want to talk to her!”

“All in due time.” Levi taunted. “I’m holding all the cards here. I make the rules. I call the shots.”

“What do you want?”

“I want that million dollars you’re offering,” he replied.

“When?”

“I’ll let you know.”

“Let me speak to Kaia.” Chance demanded.

“Before I let you to talk to her, know this. If you double-cross me, she dies. I’ll dump one of their dead bodies on your doorstep, pal and you’ll never find the other.” Levi threatened. “I may have more demands later.”

“I want to talk to her now!”

Levi handed the phone to Kaia who stood beside him in the phone booth, allowing her to speak to Chance. He leveled her a malevolent glare of dire warning at her.
